43 players are already registered and it is still two weeks out. This will be one huge event. 3 Courses are going to be used; Anna Page Park East, West, and a whole new temporary course that I heard will be the bomb, mixing wooded and open shots. Players will be grouped in pools and will tee off at different times according to what pool they belong to. I see that we have 6 people from Sterling/Rock Falls already registered and definitely more soon to register. Can't wait to play! What are your guys' plans?

NEW FALL HOURS Begin at 4:30 Wednesdays

It looks like we have an incredible turn out and we keep growing every week. It would be great if we can include about 30 or more every week.

I was thinking...how about the losing team gets stoned by all the other players? Stoned??? Stoned...hmmm.

Any other ideas about Doubles?

1) Odd man out (if there is a 5th) remains on HOLE 1 starting next week so that group can't hold anyone else up during the tournament.
2) Groups of 3 play on the highest number hole for the evening since they will go faster than everyone else.

 Welcome to Sinnissippi Team Doubles

STARTING AT 4:30 every Wednesday!!!

Every Wednesday evening, we play an OPEN doubles tournament. Teams are chosen by a random drawing just before we play. Up to 6 players we stay as a group. 17 or more players and we break up front nine and back nine, 4 players to a group. At the end of play, scores are turned in and posted here weekly.
We would like to have the top 4 teams play a final tournament late in the season.
Tournament play and general rules are ultimately decided each evening.

The most current scores are on top.
Add comments to Doubles thread in the user forum.
September 24th Players. We had 17 players tonight. This was a great turnout for an earlier play-time. We had a new low score at NINE UNDER. Nobody hit the ace AGAIN. SO you can see the CTP information in that thread. Also, go HERE to see photos taken on July 23rd & September 17th.

Remember: we now start at 4:30 to counter the early darkness.
WE NOW PLAY AT 4:30!! Don't forget!
Beginning with the July 30th Doubles Night, we started an ACE Pool.
Voluntary ONLY! The entry fee is $1 from each player each night we play.
The player who hits a witnessed ACE during TOURNAMENT play receives ONE HALF of the growing pool. However, if you did NOT donate to the pool that particular day, at least you got an ACE! and the pool continues. If NO ONE gets an ACE during Doubles, we will have a CTP sudden death after scores are turned in. Winner of this get half the night's collection. The balance remains in the pool to allow it to build.
POOL VALUE
AFTER Sept. 24th, 2008
$ 51.00
Ryan got the CTP tonight. We threw #8 with 16 people. Good job Ryan!

If you have not seen this course yet, you need to check it out.

The Eagle Point Course is nearly complete. What a classic layout; 35 TEES, 18 Holes with Alternate placements. While we do not have the final distance measured out, here is a brief description of the holes.

The course is very rolling with some big hills, some prairie shots and plenty of wooded bliss. Holes 1-3 are challenging but fairly level. Hole 4 is an easy shot downhill to a basket hidden in the deep shade of huge oaks. Hole 5 is a challenging uphill leading to the Tee pad for 6, which requires a tight tunnel shot in to an open meadow.

You'll love the 7th hole as you look for a way to drive around some big maples. The 8th hole is another tunnel drive to an uphill 2nd drive. You will be considered lucky to hit this in 3. Hole 9 is a beautiful. Situated along the upper prairie, your drive will be through some majestic, old oaks to a hidden basket.

The 2nd Nine begins with an open prairie shot to a basket just over the rise. With hole ten behind you, 11 sits along the timber and requires some deadly aim into a tunnel shot for the basket. Hole 12 delivers more of the same but the basket sits wide open after several fairway trees. Tee 13 continues this pattern for some tight shots and sits down inside a grove of Norway Maples. Hole 14 is a pleasant change with a quick right turn just before the basket. A Duece should be common here.

Well, just when you thought things were getting easy, holes 15 - 17 are a wooded nightmare, but loads of fun. 15 requires a skilled shot through multiple trees to a pin just left or right of a tree. The Tee for 16 is to the left along the path and is a straight, but long uphill through a tunnel with little forgiveness. A short hike up and out of the timber to the left presents Hole 17. While the Tees are on the meadow hills, the drive quickly plunges into wooded tunnel. Hole 18 returns to the open meadow along the parking area and is a fun drive through a grove of maples.

KEEP YOUR PARKS CLEAN. Pack out more than you carry in and remember you are always a guest.

Just Go Play. Seriously!

Our local course has seen more and more use this past couple of years. While we still have one of the best courses around, the heavy use is causing wear and tear.

Some of the basket areas are very worn down and turn into mud holes in bad weather. Some courses approach this problem with special, rubber mats, which when placed around these wear sopts, allowing the grass to grow through and withstanding much of the foot traffic.

A few of the Tee Pads are also showing some wear around their perimeters. The Tees on Hole #4, #5 and #6 are good (bad) examples of both traffic and water run-off meeting head-on. All of these would benefit from some type of water re-routing and these rubberized mats.

Liability issues aside, one wonders what the Park District can do or if we can assist in some way.
